Chicago is an epicenter of the music scene in this day and age. Any band worth their salt knows that if they’re going on a nationwide tour they need to get to the Windy City at least once. Chicagoans are a diverse musical crowd and there are plenty of places specializing in all genres and styles. Rock venues are rampant, house and dance clubs can be found anywhere, so where does the down-home country western fan go when they want to kick on their dancing boots and have a night on the town? Luckily, they have a bunch of options in the Chicagoland area.
#1 Sundance Saloon
First up on the list is Waukegan’s own Sundance Saloon.
The two-level 62,000 square foot club is one of the largest in the area, sporting an impressive 4,000 square foot dance floor upon which to cut a rug. They’re no slouch in the live musical acts, either, hosting such high-profile artists as Keith Urban and Sugarland.
#2 Cadillac Ranch
What more can be said about Bartlett’s chic dance club? Showcasing some of the best country music of this generation and those long past, it’s hard to go wrong. Every Sunday night you can mosey on over for their Sunday Night Stampede; a shindig featuring music, dancing, drinks galore and a buffet dinner for an astounding price. If you’re a little shy on the dance floor, they can help with free dance lessons on Friday evenings. Check the website for more info.
#3 Charlie’s Chicago
Right on Broadway Street you can head over and take part in some lively karaoke at one of Chicago’s most unique gay bars. That’s right, every Tuesday and Sunday you can hightail it on over and belt your favorite country tune in front of complete strangers. If you don’t like the limelight that much, you can get some pointers on your country dancing moves each Monday and Friday completely gratis.
#4 Cattle Call
Don’t let the exterior fool you. Cattle Call may look like an unassuming storefront from the street, but inside you’ll find a purple western extravaganza. Themed events every night can range from country dancing to drag shows and everything in between. It’s a great place to mingle with the local LGBT crowd, and its music can appeal to all tastes, as it features a wide range of music in addition to its western fare.
#5 Neon Moon
This friendly country dancehall is one of the most perfect, distilled experiences a western fan could ask for. Rap, pop, and rock are all four-letter-words as the music menu is country, western, folk, and all the shades in between. It has two dance floors, two bars, and one of the most down-to-earth staffs, able to give patrons exactly what they came to get. It’s like going to an old friend’s house that has a great selection of domestic beer. And we all like that friend.
